I needed two different operations following the birth of my third and last child. First, I had an abdominal hernia repaired (I’m a small person and my pregnancies caused this huge hole in my abdomen). I told the doctor I’d schedule the second operation (removal of hemorrhoids) after I’d fully recovered from the first.
During my recovery, my husband and I separated and eventually divorced. It was over a year before I called my doctor for an appointment to discuss the second surgery.
When the doctor came into the exam room, he asked why I never came back after my first surgery. I told him of my separation and subsequent divorce. He then asked what I’d come to see him for (not remembering what my second surgery would be). I said, “Well, the pain in the #%* (behind) is gone, but I’ve still got the hemorrhoids!” He laughed so hard, he had to leave the room.
It took the good doctor several departures and returns to the exam room before he could fully regain his composure to proceed with my exam.
