Emmy-winning actor and director Timothy Busfield, best known for starring in the ’80s TV series thirtysomething and for his recurring role on The West Wing, is about to go through his second divorce.
His wife of 19 years, Jennifer Busfield (nee Merwin), cited irreconcilable differences on December 10 when she filed the divorce petition in Los Angeles Superior Court. According to E! Online, she is seeking spousal support, legal fees, and physical custody of their son Samuel, 16.
Timothy Busfield, 50, also has an 18-year-old daughter with his soon-to-be ex-wife, as well as an adult son from his first marriage to fellow actor-director Radha Delamarter. He divorced Delamarter in 1986 before marrying Jennifer Busfield two years later.
His second marriage would make him a brother-in-law to Joshua Malina — another star of The West Wing — who is married to Jennifer Busfield’s sister, Melissa Merwin. Timothy Busfield’s current divorce, however, will void that family status with Malina.
Busfield’s first major role was in the 1984 comedy Revenge of the Nerds. He has also appeared in Little Big League, Field of Dreams, and Sneakers. His TV directing credits include thirtysomething, Ed, and Without a Trace. His most recent role was on the short-lived NBC show Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, from West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin.
