Former 90210 star Jennie Garth separated from Twilight star Peter Facinelli in 2012 after 11 years of marriage, and their divorce was finalized this past summer. Garth was featured on Bethenny Frankel’s October 21st airing of Bethenny to talk about dating after divorce. The mother of three daughters explained how getting back into the dating game after the end of her 17-year relationship has been “fun and awful all at the same.”
Garth says that her focus remains on parenting her three daughters, Luca Bella, 15, Lola Ray. 10, and Fiona Eve, 6, to the best of her ability, which is “super challenging” on her own. She and her ex-husband have a 50/50 co-parenting arrangement and equally fund a joint bank account to take care of their children and their children’s future education. The couple had declined signing a formal custody arrangement and apparently continue to be “great parents together.” But returning to the dating scene is “like a weird type of torture” for Garth.
“I’ve had to go through a lot. You have to find your way and stumble and make mistakes. I think that’s the only way you learn how to do it is by making mistakes, unfortunately. I expected to come out of it and be just great at it.” Amid rumours of a relationship with Big Gigantic drummer Jeremey Salken, she said effectively that she’s only dating herself. Garth says that “it helps to know that the pain is not going to last forever” in regards to her divorce, and that she hasn’t given up that she could find the right person for her. “I look for somebody that shares an energy. It doesn’t matter what the person looks like or what they really do. There has to be that first and foremost, that zing. That thing.”
