Canadian rock superstar Alanis Morissette has one hand in her pocket, and the other one is wearing a wedding ring. The 1990s music icon secretly married American hip-hop artist MC Souleye (real name Mario Treadway) more than two weeks ago.
Morissette revealed the news on her Facebook and Twitter pages yesterday. “Hi guys! So happy to share with you that my man Souleye and I got married,” she wrote on her Facebook fan page. “We’re very excited to embark on this journey with each other.” She did not share any further details.
According to People, the singer-songwriter and the 30-year-old unsigned rapper held a small wedding ceremony at their home in Los Angeles on May 22. The couple began dating last October.
This is the first marriage for both Morissette and Souleye. Morissette has previously been engaged to Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds. In the early ’90s, she dated Full House star Dave Coulier, who has long been rumored to be the subject of Morissette’s 1995 breakthrough hit, “You Oughta Know”.
Alanis Morissette, 36, began her music career in Canada as a teenage dance-pop diva, but she switched to a harder, post-grunge rock sound with her third album, Jagged Little Pill. That album has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide to date and yielded six hit singles, including “You Oughta Know”, “Hand in My Pocket”, and “You Learn”. Her career has netted her seven Grammy Awards and 16 Junos. She has released four more successful albums since then. Her most recent single, “I Remain”, is theme from the movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Originally from Massachusetts, MC Souleye released a seven-song compilation, Balance in Babylon, in December. His career began when he appeared in the Jam Cruise festival in 2005.
