Singer-songwriter Alicia Keys has something big to enter into her “Diary”. The 29-year-old soul and R&B star married rapper and record producer Swizz Beatz on Saturday.
The private ceremony, which Deepak Chopra conducted, took place in Corsica, an island belonging to France on the Mediterranean. However, according to E! Online, the marriage will not be legal in the United States until the couple holds a civil ceremony there.
Beatz, whose real name is Kasseem Dean, hinted at the nuptials on Saturday with the Twitter posts “Wowwwwwwwwww,” and “It’s a brand new day 🙂 I feel like Nas and Diddy song 🙂 love y’all and blessing!”
This is Keys’ first marriage. Beatz, 31, divorced singer Mashonda Tifrere in 2008. Keys is pregnant with Beatz’ child, due in November. Beatz has two sons, Prince Nasir and Kasseem Jr., and a daughter, Nicole, from previous relationships.
Beatz publicly announced that he was in a relationship with Keys in May of last year. A publicist for the couple revealed their engagement and Keys’ pregnancy in May of this year.
Swizz Beatz has released six solo singles, and his second studio album, Life after the Party, will come out later this year. He is better known for his work as a producer, for such artists as Beyoncé, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, Ludacris and many others.
Alicia Keys’ 2001 debut album, Songs in A Minor, earned five Grammy Awards for her. She is one of the best-selling music artists of the past decade, with four chart-topping albums and an additional seven Grammys. Her hit songs include “Fallin'”, “You Don’t Know My Name”, “No One”, and “Un-Thinkable (I’m Ready)”.
