Looks like Dawson has become tired of his real-life Joey. James Van Der Beek, best known for playing the title character in the TV teen hit Dawson’s Creek from 1998 to 2003, has initiated a divorce filing from actor Heather McComb.
Van Der Beek, 32, cited irreconcilable differences with a Los Angeles court on Friday. The couple separated in June, after less than six years together. They have no children.
The first sign of trouble in the marriage may have come in March, when the pair put their Studio City, California mansion up for sale. The marital home, which includes 180-degree mountain and city views as well as mist cooling system, sold for about $2.5 million.
Van Der Beek and McComb married in Malibu, California in July 2003, in a modest wedding ceremony attended by Dawson’s Creek costars Michelle Williams and Busy Phillips.
Heather McComb, also 32, has appeared in episodes of The X-Files, Party of Five, CSI, and Prison Break. She was the first actor to play X-Men character Jubilee, in the 1996 TV movie Generation X.
James Van Der Beek’s other TV credits include Robot Chicken, Ugly Betty, and Medium. He will appear in the upcoming movies Stolen Lives and Formosa Betrayed.
