Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria and San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker barely made it past three years of marriage. Longoria filed for divorce from the French NBA star earlier today, citing irreconcilable differences. Both spouses posted an identical statement on their respective Twitters: “We love each other deeply and pray for each other’s happiness.” Longoria, 35, asked for her legal name to be changed back to Eva Jacqueline Longoria in her divorce filing, thus dropping her husband’s surname. She also requested that both parties in the divorce pay their own legal fees, but that she receive spousal support. The couple has a prenuptial agreement, but no details of it are public. They have no children.
“It’s a difficult time right now for me and Eva,” Parker, 28, told a group of reporters outside the Spurs’ locker room. “We got a joint statement and everything else is our private life.” When asked about rumors of Parker having an affair with an ex-teammate’s wife, he replied, “That’s my private life.” Parker and Longoria began dating in 2004, and they married in July 2007 in Paris. Shortly after the wedding, French model Alexandra Paressant claimed that she had had an affair with Parker after having met him at the ceremony. As a result, Parker initiated a $20 million lawsuit against X17online.com, which had first reported Paressant’s claim. Longoria was previously married to actor Tyler Christopher for two years. Eva Longoria got her break with a recurring role on long-running soap opera The Young and the Restless from 2001 to 2003. She has played Gabrielle Solis on Desperate Housewives since 2004; the role has earned for her a People’s Choice Award and a Teen Choice Award. Tony Parker is a three-time NBA All-Star. He recently signed a multi-year contract extension with the San Antonio Spurs.
