Here at Divorce Magazine, we take a rather wide view of divorce-related news.
That‘s why we put our thousands of articles into nice, convenient categories — like General Divorce News, World Divorce News, Divorce Law & Court Cases, Divorce Recovery, Celebrity Divorce News, and dozens more. Our readers like how we’ve set things up, and that’s good enough for us.
However, every now and then — not often, but about a handful of times a year — we come across divorce-related news that defies our best attempts at classification. And the first such case of 2013 is the sad saga of Kelly Hildebrandt and Kelly Hildebrandt.
No, that’s not a typo.
You see, in 2009, a single man from Texas named Kelly Hildebrandt and a single woman from Florida also named Kelly Hildebrandt met each other over Facebook because, yup, you guessed it: they had the same name.
So, Kelly and Kelly decided to meet, sparks flew, they figured they’d save a fortune on monogrammed clothing and return address labels, and tied the knot. Then they went on a whirlwind media tour to share their Love Story 2.0.
Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. As reported by the Toronto Star today, the Hildebrandts are heading for divorce.
“We gave it our best shot,” commented Mr. Hildebrandt in an interview with NBC news.
There’s no word yet on whether either Hildebrandt will consider re-marrying someone without the same name in the future.
Attendees at Hildebrandt family reunions across the world are warned to stay alert for sudden marriage proposals.
