Former NY Gov. David Paterson Splits from Wife

David Paterson, the former New York state Governor who admitted to having multiple affairs, has separated from his wife Michelle Paige Paterson in a move that has been called “mutual and amicable.”

The Paterson’s marriage has been fodder for both tabloid and mainstream media since David Paterson took office in 2008 and admitted to adultery. Shortly after, Michelle Paige Paterson also admitted to having affairs. Both spouses pointed to the crumbling state of their marriage as the main reason for the infidelity.

Over the last several years, New York Governor’s have arguably spent more time addressing and defending their personal decisions than their political ones. Most people likely recall that Paterson’s predecessor, Eliot Spitzer, resigned from office after being accused of soliciting prostitutes; a charge he eventually admitted.
