Holmes and Cruise Negotiating: Report

It appears as though the public feeding frenzy otherwise known as Katie Homles’ divorce from Tom “I Had You at Hello” Cruise may not come to pass.



That’s because, as reported by PEOPLE and several other media outlets, Holmes visited her New York divorce lawyer two days ago; a move that some experts suggest is an attempt to try and negotiate with Team Cruise in advance of the couple’s first court appearance on July 17. 



Further, despite some public volleys over the past few days — including Cruise’s lawyer claiming that Holmes and friends were deliberately publicizing details of the divorce that weren’t favorable to his client — a source told PEOPLE that, for the time being at least, neither side wants the divorce to be a public affair.



It remains to be seen whether both sides have the willpower, stamina and good old fashioned common sense (which sometimes takes a vacation during divorce) to resolve their divorce in a civilized and, ideally, private fashion. 



One thing, however, is for sure: the decisions that are made over next few weeks determine whether both celebrities, and especially their daughter Suri, will emerge from this sad situation wounded – but not damaged.
