“I think my lawyer has not paid attention to my case and is doing a poor job representing me. What are my options?”
You engage the services of your lawyer as you do a medical specialist or any other professional. A successful result will depend on the synergy and confidence you share. You have no obligation to remain in the relationship. Make sure your expectations are realistic. If they are, communicate your concerns, and if they are not resolved to your satisfaction, go elsewhere, either to another family attorney or to a family mediator.
Debra C. Baer, B.C.L. has been practicing family law for 23 years. She now dedicates herself to full-time family mediation and works extensively with families in transition through Collaborative Divorce Consultants.
