Debbie Matenopoulos may make her living by dishing out entertainment news, but this breaking bulletin somehow slipped by her. She had to find out from news reports on the Internet that her husband, music executive Jay Faires, had filed for divorce.
Faires, who is Lions Gate Entertainment’s president of music and the founder of Mammoth Records, submitted his divorce papers with the Los Angeles Superior Court on November 12, citing irreconcilable differences. He requested that the Court not award any spousal support to Matenopoulos.
Although the divorce filing reportedly came as a surprise to the 33-year-old host of E!’s The Daily 10 and former co-host of The View, the couple has been separated since March.
“I am not a proponent of divorce,” Matenopoulos told People on November 15, “and I believe in working things out. So you can only imagine my extreme sadness and disillusionment when I was informed of my husband’s divorce proceedings, much like you were, by reading them online.”
In a separate statement to E! News, Matenopoulos said: “I am deeply saddened by the dissolution of my seven-year relationship with my husband, a man I truly believed I would be with forever. Although my public persona may seem unconventional at times, I do not take marriage and family lightly, and I am quite traditional.”
Faires and Matenopoulos married in July 2003. They do not have any children.
Debbie Matenopoulos began her career as an MTV intern, and she co-hosted The View from 1997 to 1999. She has been a regular on The Daily 10 since the show debuted in April 2006. Matenopoulos has received two Emmy nominations.
