It seems that marriage was one stunt Johnny Knoxville couldn’t handle. Even without having an affair.
The actor and daredevil, best known as the co-creator and star of the notorious MTV reality series Jackass, is now officially divorced from his wife of nearly 13 years, Melanie Lynn Clapp. The Associated Press reports that Los Angeles Superior Court finalized the divorce judgment on March 20, although court documents revealing the judgment didn’t include details on child custody or support.
Knoxville, who recently turned 37, separated from his wife in July 2006 and filed for divorce a year later. He cited irreconcilable differences and sought joint custody of the couple’s daughter, Madison, 12. (Let’s hope young Madison hasn’t been learning any new tricks from her dad‘s day job.) Rumors had abounded that Knoxville had an affair with pop singer Jessica Simpson during the filming of The Dukes of Hazzard in 2005, but both spouses denied any affair had taken place, according to Us Magazine.
On a February appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Knoxville claimed he was having a love affair with a new girlfriend.
Knoxville, whose real name is Philip John Clapp, appears in the upcoming film Killshot, based on an Elmore Leonard novel and directed by Shakespeare in Love‘s John Madden. He will also be in the next Jackass movie, Jackass 3, due for release this year.
Hopefully, Knoxville and his ex can work out a decent parenting arrangement. For one author’s take on divorce with children, click here.
