The holidays must have been rough on celebrity marriages and relationships. Kelly Rutherford’s and Patricia Arquette’s impending divorces have been publicly announced in the past week, and there’s another new bombshell: Jennifer Love Hewitt has called it quits with her fiancé, Scottish actor Ross McCall.
Love Hewitt, who currently stars in CBS’s Ghost Whisperer, dated McCall for two years before they became engaged in November 2007 during a Hawaiian vacation. At the time, she told People: “I’m getting ready to turn 30 and get married and all those things. This year was my year to try to glow from within and feel better.” The couple never announced a wedding date, however.
According to world entertainment news network, rumors about problems between the couple surfaced in September. Hewitt, 29, was spotted and photographed crying outside her home while McCall loaded bags into the back of a vehicle.
“They broke up over the holidays and have ended their engagement. They’re both really sad about this,” an anonymous source close to the pair told People. “Even their friends are surprised; they seemed really happy. Everyone just wants the best for both of them.”
Hewitt had been romantically linked to several celebrities prior to McCall, including Joey Lawrence, John Mayer, Will Friedle, and Carson Daly.
Jennifer Love Hewitt began her career at the age of ten with the Disney children’s sitcom Kids Incorporated. She became a star after joining the cast of the FOX sitcom Party of Five in 1995, and she also had the leading role in the horror hit I Know What You Did Last Summer and its first sequel. Love Hewitt has also released four albums as a singer-songwriter.
Ross McCall, who turns 33 next week, starred in the HBO World War II miniseries Band of Brothers. He currently stars in the TV series Crash, a spinoff of the Oscar-winning Paul Haggis movie.
