The reality keeps spilling outside the reality series and into the headlines. Recently fired TLC star Jon Gosselin, in the midst of a divorce from former costar Kate Gosselin, is insisting that their children no longer appear on the recently renamed Kate Plus Eight.
A move that, apparently, would leave it as Kate.
Gosselin and his divorce lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, issued a statement to TLC last week demanding an end to the popular show. “Effective immediately, no production crews are to enter Jon’s family home for any reason,” the statement read. “In the event that anyone enters the marital property, Jon Gosselin will notify the local authorities to effectuate police action against any trespassers.”
Gosselin, 32, spoke publicly about the matter on Thursday’s edition of Larry King Live, claiming that the former Jon & Kate Plus 8 is now potentially harmful to the eight children and that TLC may be breaking child-labor laws. When host Larry King showed an old clip of Gosselin defending the network and the show, Gosselin replied that he’d had an “epiphany” since then.
Funny how a messy divorce can change a mind so quickly. As recently as June, Gosselin had insisted to People that TLC was not exploiting the children in any way. “Exploited? I don’t even want to use that word, because I think it’s ridiculous,” the magazine quoted him as saying.
The Gosselins are set to divorce next month. Jon Gosselin is reportedly seeking a 90-day hold on the divorce process, in order to get control over the family again.
