Television personality Khloe Kardashian, 29, finally filed for divorce from NBA basket player Lamar Odom, 33, on December 13, ending their four-year marriage based on “irreconcilable differences.” The couple has been estranged since June, following rumours of Odom’s drug use and cheating. Odom and Kardashian married in 2009, one month after they met at a party. Shortly after marriage, Kardashian incorporated Odom in her name. She is asking for her name to be restored in the divorce.
In the past few years, the couple released perfume “Unbreakable Bond” for women, and unisex perfumes “Unbreakable” and “Unbreakable Joy” together. Kardashian and Odom apparently had an iron-clad prenup agreement and kept their assets separate, which will protect the Kardashian’s $10 million fortune and Odom’s estimated net worth of $56 million. “Everybody needs a prenup. I don’t care if you make five dollars or $5 million dollars, you’re protecting yourself in this day and age. People are crazy, you never know,” Khloe said in 2011, “And when you have businesses together, like we do, you have to protect yourself. It doesn’t mean you don’t love them.”
Although the terms of the prenup are confidential, there are reports that Khloe’s end included an infidelity clause. If the rumours of Odom’s adultery are true, the divorce might be complicated. Kardashian and Odom had reportedly gone to couples therapy together on November 8, apparently to no avail. Odom released a rap freestyle video insinuating cheating, drugs and money on November 22, which reportedly influenced Kardashian to file for divorce. According to a source close to the athlete, Odom plans “not to fight” and end the marriage as soon as possible in order to concentrate on returning to the NBA.
