People Magazine reported yesterday that Oscar winners Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes separated earlier in the year. According to their lawyers, the split has been, and will continue to be an amicable one, with each making an active commitment in the raising of their child. The two were married in 2003 and have a 6-year old son, Joe. Winslet also has a 9-year old daughter from her first marriage to Jim Threapleton. Winslet and Mendes became a couple in 2001 when he approached her about participating in stage productions with his London theatre company. Winslet declined. Mendes won an Oscar for Best Director for his work on American Beauty in 2000 and Winslet took home the Best Actress nod in 2009, her sixth nomination. |
