Sometimes reality TV really does bring couples together. In this case, though, we don’t mean a cheesy dating show like The Bachelor or Joe Millionaire. In fact, it’s the winners of 2006 FOX series Skating with Celebrities who have married.
Actor Kristy Swanson, who made the transition from vampire slayer to figure skater when she appeared on the show, got hitched to Canadian former figure-skating champ Lloyd Eisler on February 7. The ceremony, attended by more than 100 friends and family members, took place at a hotel in San Luis Obispo, California.
“We’re excited about the future,” Eisler told People afterward. “Kristy is getting back into acting, and I’m building my coaching career. Hopefully everything will work out.”
At the reception, Swanson and Eisler reportedly danced to “I’ll Be” by Edwin McCain, one of the songs they skated to as partners on Skating with Celebrities.
Eisler and Swanson began dating while teamed up on the series, even though Eisler was still married to his first wife at the time. Their son, Magnus, was born in February 2007; Eisler, 45, also has two children from his first marriage.
“We wanted to celebrate Lloyd and I [sic] coming together as a family,” Swanson told People. She added: “It’s about perfect happiness and unity.”
The relationship hasn’t been without its troubled moments. In June 2007, Swanson was arrested for an alleged physical assault on Eisler’s ex-wife, Marcia O’Brien. However, O’Brien dropped the charges four months later.
With the wedding, things seem to have worked out in the end. “It was awesome, and I feel amazing,” Swanson, 39, told People about the ceremony. She described it as “perfect, even though Lloyd’s cell phone went off at the end. He forgot to put it on vibrate.”
Kristy Swanson is best known for the title role in the 1992 movie Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which later spawned the cult TV series of the same name. Other film credits include 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag, Big Daddy, and Dude, Where’s My Car?; more recently, she has appeared in the TV series CSI: Miami and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
Lloyd Eisler is a member of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame along with his longtime skating partner, Isabelle Brasseur. He and Brasseur won the World Championships in figure skating in 1993, and they also won bronze medals at the 1992 and 1994 Winter Olympics. Today, he coaches in the United States.
