Love isn’t always such a wonderful thing for pop singer Michael Bolton. It seems that he still can’t Go The Distance with his on-again, off-again girlfriend, actor Nicollette Sheridan — or perhaps Sheridan isn’t “desperate” enough to become his wife.
People reported on August 26 that the veteran vocalist and the Knots Landing/Desperate Housewives star have broken off their engagement of more than two years.
“Nicollette Sheridan and Michael Bolton have amicably ended their engagement,” Nicole Perna, Sheridan’s publicist, told the magazine. “They appreciate your respect for their privacy in this matter.”
The couple first began seeing each other romantically in 1992, while Sheridan was married to L.A. Law star Harry Hamlin. She divorced Hamlin the following year and continued her relationship with Bolton until 1997. They reunited in 2005 after Sheridan broke off her engagement with Swedish personal trainer Nicklas Söderblom. Bolton and Sheridan announced their own engagement in March 2006.
A couple of months before he and Sheridan became engaged, he told the New York Daily News: “Nicollette and I are very serious about each other. I am very committed. It is a very special time in my life. I have a good feeling about the future.”
During the pair’s engagement, they recorded a duet together, a cover of Frank Sinatra’s “The Second Time Around”. They also appeared together in a London Fog charity ad, with Sheridan posing nude.
Bolton’s first marriage was to Maureen McGuire, with whom he has three adult daughters. They were married from 1975 to 1990.
Michael Bolton, 55, has made a career of hit covers of other artists’ songs, including “(Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay”, “How Am I Supposed to Live without You?”, “When a Man Loves a Woman”, and “Georgia on My Mind”. Nicollette Sheridan, 44, played Paige Matheson on Knots Landing and currently stars as Edie Britt on Desperate Housewives.
