Eleven days after your four-year-old daughter died in a freak accident, you probably wouldn’t be in much of a mood to get married. But you’re not Mike Tyson.
The former world heavyweight champion wed his girlfriend, Lakiha Spicer, in Las Vegas on June 6. They received their marriage license only half an hour before the ceremony, which took place at the La Bella Wedding Chapel in the city’s Hilton hotel and casino.
Spicer, 32, reportedly lived in Henderson, NV, a nearby suburb, before marrying the former boxer.
Exodus, Tyson’s daughter with another woman, was found unconscious and tangled in an exercise-treadmill cord on May 25 at her mother’s Arizona home. The girl died the following day.
This is Tyson’s third marriage. Actor Robin Givens, who was married to the reportedly abusive Tyson from 1988 to 1989, once described their union as “torture, pure hell, worse than anything I could possibly imagine” to Barbara Walters. His second marriage, to Monica Turner, lasted from 1997 to 2003; she accused him of adultery. He has had seven children from several different women.
Mike Tyson, who will turn 43 at the end of June, retired from boxing in 2005 after a career of both professional glory and legal troubles. He won the World Boxing Council title at the age of 20 and has also held the WBA and IBF heavyweight titles. However, Tyson was convicted of rape in 1992 and served three years in prison.
