Sorry, guys. It appears that Hollywood starlet Scarlett Johansson has scored her Match Point. The 23-year-old actor, singer, and sex symbol has become engaged to Canadian-born actor Ryan Reynolds, People reported on May 5. They have been dating for about a year.
“They’re both thrilled,” the magazine quoted Johansson’s spokesman, Marcel Pariseau, as saying in an e-mail that confirmed the engagement. Reynolds, 31, has recently proposed to Johansson, but the couple hasn’t set their wedding date yet. (Coincidentally, Reynolds is now in Boston shooting a film called The Proposal.)
The same day People came out with the Scoop, Johansson was spotted sporting a diamond engagement ring at New York’s Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala, according to Reuters.
Neither Reynolds nor Johansson has married before, although the former was engaged to Ottawa-bred singer and songwriter Alanis Morissette for more than two and a half years. Johansson has been linked in the past to Justin Timberlake, Benicio del Toro, Jared Leto, and others.
Scarlett Johansson began her acting career in childhood and became a star at age 13 in Robert Redford’s The Horse Whisperer. She also received acclaim for her teenage role in the 2001 comic-book adaptation Ghost World. Although she has yet to receive an Academy Award nomination, she did win a BAFTA award for her performance in the critically-lauded, Tokyo-set romance Lost in Translation in 2003.
Recently, she starred in The Other Boleyn Girl as the sister of beheaded queen Anne Boleyn (and reports say Johansson herself is slated to lose her head as Mary Queen of Scots in an upcoming film). Her next movie appearance will be in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, her third production with New York director Woody Allen. And May 20 will see the release of her debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, which will include covers of Tom Waits songs and additional singing by David Bowie.
Ryan Reynolds’ credits include Blade: Trinity, a remake of The Amityville Horror, and Definitely Maybe.
