Two-time Oscar-winner Sean Penn may be at the height of his career as an actor, but he’s not so sure of himself when it comes to his marriage. His on-again-off-again union with Robin Wright Penn appears to be on again, but for how long?
Penn, 48, filed for divorce from Wright Penn with a Marin County, California court on April 24, citing irreconcilable differences. But he changed his mind last week and withdrew his divorce papers; his representative confirmed that the documents were “dismissed and taken out of the system”, according to Sky News.
“It was an arrogant mistake,” Penn told the New York Daily News on May 22, referring to his most recent divorce filing.
The Penns, who married in 1996 after dating on and off for several years, first separated in November 2007. They reconciled a few months later and called off the divorce in April 2008. In February, the couple attended the 2009 Academy Awards together; Penn won his second Best Actor award for the Harvey Milk biopic Milk but did not thank Wright Penn in his acceptance speech.
The couple has two teenage children, 18-year-old Dylan Frances and 15-year-old Hopper Jack.
Sean Penn won his first Best Actor Oscar in 2004 for his role in Clint Eastwood’s Mystic River. Robin Wright Penn, 43, is best known for her roles in The Princess Bride, Forrest Gump, and Message in a Bottle.
