After announcing their divorce plans in 2008, it’s now official: Shania Twain and (former) husband Robert John “Mutt” Lange have finalized their divorce. The divorce took place last week in Switzerland, where Twain lives with the couple’s 8-year old son, Eja D’Angelo.
Their marriage lasted 14 years — something of an eternity by celebrity marriage standards — and began to crumble when it came to light that Lange was having an affair with the country star’s former assistant and friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud.
On her divorce, Twain noted: “I feel like in a way I’m starting over, with everything.. I was in a very deep, dark slump, and I needed to find a way to get myself out of it. I had to force myself back out into life, back out into experiencing things…there were moments when I really just thought, ‘I don’t need anything and I don’t need anyone. I just want to go away and disappear.’ So, that was a bad slump.”
Interestingly (if not ironically), that “slump” may be over — because Twain has reportedly grown quite close to Theibaud’s husband, Frederic. While nothing “official” has been announced, rumors swirl that the pair are romantically linked.
