February 28, 2014: Singer Robin Thicke and Paula Patton Announce Mutual Separation After 20 Years Together
R&B singer Robin Thicke and his wife of 8 years, actress Paula Patton, have officially announced their separation. An exception to the typical Hollywood marriage formula of impromptu celebrity weddings and quickie divorces, the couple first began dating as teenagers and married in 2005. Thicke, 36, and Patton, 38, say the breakup was mutual.

It seems the decision to split was made amicably, as the duo hopes to maintain a close relationship as separated co-parents to their three-year-old son. “We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time,” said the couple is a joint statement released to the press.
News of their separation is certainly disappointing; however, this isn’t the first time that singer Robin Thicke and Patton have drawn attention for their marital problems. Breakup rumors circulated last year after Thicke’s scandalous performance with singer Miley Cyrus at the 2013 Video Music Award’s. The initial rumors were proved baseless when Patton rose to her husband’s defense and supported his career choices amid the backlash of the raunchy VMA performance.
Although Thicke and Patton dismissed breakup rumours in September when the media insisted their marriage was falling apart, the couple confirmed the more recent speculation regarding their separation this week.
Thicke and Patton both appeared happy and content when they arrived together on the red carpet for the Grammy Awards on January 26th of this year. But with the recent confirmation of their separation, the mirage of this happily-ever-after Hollywood love story has been shattered.
Robin Thicke is currently completing a national concert tour and Patton is concentrating on her film career. She most recently appeared in the film “About Last Night.”
The stars’ representatives have not released information regarding a potential divorce filing.
