The personal turmoil never seems to end for British singer Amy Winehouse. Despite all of the success and critical acclaim of her music, her alcohol and drug problems and her legal troubles have made her — to be “Frank” — tabloid fodder. (On top of that, she had to face the indignity of being picked by Richard Blackwell as the second-worst-dressed woman of 2007, just behind Victoria Beckham.)
Now, Winehouse may be adding a divorce to her list of personal woes, after a couple of supposed affairs. According to a recent report in British magazine Grazia, her father has revealed that her jailed husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, has threatened to break up their marriage.
Fielder-Civil, 25, was arrested on November 9 for trying to pervert the course of justice concerning an assault on a bartender, regarding which he allegedly tried to bribe the victim with £200,000 to drop the charges. London authorities are currently holding him in custody at Pentonville Prison. But it seems that Winehouse has spent a holiday in the Caribbean with old flame George Roberts in a possible affair during her husband’s imprisonment — and has since been rumored to be having another affair with record producer Mark Robson.
“Blake threatened to issue divorce proceedings when they were having a row,” Winehouse’s father Mitch Winehouse told Grazia. “Unfortunately, Blake is influenced by things his mother has said. I think Georgette [the mother of Fielder-Civil] wants them to divorce, but it’s up to them. From Amy’s point of view, she would stick by him not [sic] matter what. But he has said things like, ‘I want a divorce.'”
Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has also reported Mitch Winehouse as blaming Fielder-Civil’s mother for encouraging the celebrity couple to separate.
Winehouse, 24, married Fielder-Civil on May 18, 2007 in Miami after an on-off relationship. Although the singer is nominated for several Grammy awards this year, some reports say she may not be able to enter the U.S. to attend the February 10 ceremony due to a recent arrest for marijuana possession.
