You start your divorce in the county that you live in. That can be a husband’s county or a wife’s county, but usually it’s the same county because they are at the early stages of the break-up of their relationship and neither spouse has moved on.

I have a friend who is in prison at PBSP and has asked me to help find some answers due to his limited resources. he was married in 1989 and was locked up just hotly after that, she never legally changed her name to his and abandoned him pretty quick into his sentence. they have a child together who is now 25. She showed up sporadically over the years but has not had any communication with her for about 10 years now. The last time she visited she was going by another name altogether, she had also had another daughter with someone else. My friend asked her why the different name and she replied that she changed it for legal reasons for other daughter. ( which we believe this to a lie) Ive searched for divorce record to see if she possibly filed a no signature divorce, but found nothing. on a social network site, she proclaims to be remarried, hence the name change. she was contacted by family member and informed that he would like to initiate a divorce and have some closure and was asked if she may have already gotten divorce since it appears that she has remarried. she responded that she wasn’t “LEGALLY” remarried, meaning she is married to two men, which makes her marriage to current or recent husband , not legal! We’re thinking that she not only didn’t tell new hubby she was married (which by the way happened to be a friend of theirs who lived next door) but also didn’t bother to get her 1st marriage dissolved. and because they were married in Idaho, she thought noone would be all the wiser. my friend really just wants the easiest route possible to simply get this done. we don’t know how to proceed with this or where to even start.
Her and present husband have a lot of assets….house, 5th wheeler, atvs, boat etc..etc…etc.. which could or could not be in her name as well as his , so she really has a lot to lose. My friend on the other hand is concerned more with how their daughter will be effected by the results of how all this could turn out. because he would like to build a healthy relationship with his daughter when he is released. can you give us some advice…. please?? how do we proceed with this ?? thank you for taking the time to consider this.
